is the headquarters of the Administration.
This island is dotted with about 52 mosques
and Ujra Mosque is the most beautiful one.
It is believed that water of a well near the
mosque has healing properties. The beautiful
and calm lagoons are ideal spots for unwinding.
Island also offers hosts of for water sports.

Marine life enthusiasts can visit
the marine aquarium, which has an excellent collection
of aquatic specimens. The multi colored underwater
life in the lagoons can be viewed through glass-bottomed
boats.

Minicoy |
|
The second largest island in Lakshadweep,
Minicoy is an isolated from the main group. It has
a cluster of 11 villages with beautifully decorated
and maintained houses. They are called "Ava'h"
each presided over by an elected village elder called
'Bodukaka' to who is bestowed with the power to
manage village affairs. It is culturally quite distinct
from its northern cousins. |

On the southern side Minicoy has one
of the largest lagoons with a small uninhabited
island called Viringili is hub for various tourist
activities. Being very important center for tuna
fishing, Tuna canning factory, 300 foot tall light
house built in 1885 are some very important landmark
of Minicoy. |
